We are in the process of buying a new house. This has been an interesting process for me, especially given the changes in the market and the challenges of doing this with someone else rather than alone. We've decided that since the market is poor for selling, we'll rent out our current house. In order to do this, we refinanced the current house, took out enough money for the down payment for the new house. We then used NVR Mortgage - the mortgage company for the builder because of their fabulous incentives - 1/2 off options + 15,000 towards closing. My wonderful husband further negotiated another 12,000 off (I think that's right, in total).
In the past week, we've had to select tile for the bathrooms, floors for the entire house, and the wiring package. We're both fairly clueless, so it's been interesting. I cried at the flooring place - how do you pick carpet when they're all more or less the same color and the woman is insisting - is it this one? so this is the one you want for the living room? oh, this is the one you want for the kids' rooms? How can we tell? I got myself together, my hubby gave my a big hug, and we made some choices. But our hardwood floors are beautiful! We are getting Natural Lyptus floors www.weyerhaeuser.com/ourbusinesses/
